Can a bereaved close relative, participate in the Victim Contact Scheme?

If you are a bereaved close relative where an offender is sentenced to 12 months in prison or more for a violent or sexual offence or detained in a secure hospital for treatment, you will also be offered participation in the Victim Contact Scheme (VCS). However, if you are not the next of kin of the victim, this will be at the discretion of the National Probation Service.

If the offender in the case is under 18, the Youth Offending Team will refer your details to the probation trust so you can be offered an opportunity to take part in the VCS.
