Does Restorative Justice apply if the offender is under 18 years of age?

If the offender is under the age of 18, you are entitled to be offered the opportunity by your Youth Offending Team to participate in voluntary Restorative Justice activities where appropriate and available.

You can ask the police not to pass on your details to a Youth Offending Team if you do not want to participate in Restorative Justice activities. You will be told about the Youth Offending Team's role so that you have an informed choice about whether you wish to participate in Restorative Justice. If you do want to take part you will be asked for written consent.

Restorative Justice will be explained to you by the Youth Offending Team and you will be told about the Youth Offending Team's role so that you have an informed choice about whether you wish to participate. If you do want to take part you will be asked for written consent. You should not be pressured into taking part in Restorative Justice. The necessary measures will be taken to make sure any Restorative Justice is safe, is delivered by a trained facilitator and is in line with recognised quality standards.
